Erika left the MTC early (around 3:00am early!) Tuesday morning to take the train from Provo to the SLC airport, traveling with her MTC companion and some Elders also traveling to Texas. Besides getting to call at Christmas and Mother's Day, the other time they get to call home is from the airport before they fly out. SO... we got to talk to Erika! She called at just past 6:00am PT and was loving life! She said the 3 weeks at the MTC was perfect, and now she was ready and anxious to get to Texas!!! It was great to hear her voice and the excitement that she has for the Gospel.

Erika's birthday was Friday, Nov. 4th, and it was strange to not have her here or to be able to call her, so it was good to talk to her a few days before hand. Though we remembered Erika on her birthday by having tortellini for dinner!

A bit later that afternoon we received a quick email saying she had arrived safely, and then the next day we got the below email from her Mission President:

Dear Family,

Sister Whitney and I want you to know that your missionary has arrived safely in Texas.
We look forward to serving together in accomplishing the Lord’s work.  We hope you
enjoy the attached picture of your missionary as well as knowing that the missionaries
are in good hands here as they are in the Lord’s service.

Your missionary’s assignment will be in Azle, Texas. She will be serving with
Sister Poulton.

Their apartment address is:
1045 Timberoaks Dr. #3
Azle, TX  76020

Your missionary will email on Monday which is their preparation day.  They are always
happy to hear from you as well.  Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

President & Sister Whitney

I admit it--reading Erika's posts and seeing the great photos jerked a tear or two. They are happy tears though, for this lovely daughter of God who has chosen to represent Jesus Christ full-time and spread the light of the gospel. That light shines in her eyes and in her heart--and brings joy to mine.
